At Annie’s Fresh Coats, every project tells a story—and this one roared to life with vintage grit and a whole lot of red.
We recently had the honor of restoring and powder coating a 1974 Honda 90cc—an iconic two-wheeled legend that once ruled the dirt trails and backroads across America. With a fresh coat of RAL 3020 Traffic Red, this little ripper isn’t just reborn—it’s ready to turn heads all over again.

The Bike That Taught America to Ride
The Honda 90cc—especially the CT90 and Trail 90 variants—were more than just small displacement bikes. They served as a rite of passage for many. Built for both utility and fun, these bikes are known for their rugged durability. Their step-through frame and off-road capability made them a hit with ranchers, hunters, campers, and young riders alike.
From the 1960s through the mid-70s, Honda's 90cc lineup bridged the gap between lightweight mobility and genuine adventure. You could easily throw one on the back of your RV, strap it to a trailer, or cruise through town—all without breaking a sweat. They were simple, reliable, and just rebellious enough to earn their place in motorcycling history.

From Rusty to Ripping in RAL 3020
When this particular 1974 model rolled into the shop, it had definitely seen better days. Time had taken its toll on the frame and components, but the bones were solid—and we saw its potential immediately.
We blasted away decades of grime and oxidation. Each surface was meticulously prepped. Then, we finished it off with a powder coat of RAL 3020 Traffic Red, a bold, brilliant hue that screams vintage performance. This isn’t just a paint job—it’s a full-blown resurrection.

The Importance of Restoration
Restoring a bicycle like the Honda 90 is not just about aesthetics. It's about honoring its legacy and the joy it has brought to many. Each restored bike has the power to evoke memories and inspire new adventures. This nuanced approach to restoration combines nostalgia with modernization. It respects the past while embracing the future.
Why Powder Coating for Vintage Bikes?
Powder coating isn’t just about looks—it’s about preservation. For vintage motorcycles like the Honda 90, powder coating offers durable, corrosion-resistant finishes. This treatment stands up to the elements, dirt, and wear better than traditional paint. It’s the perfect fusion of old-school style and modern durability.
In fact, many collectors and enthusiasts choose powder coating specifically for its longevity and vibrant colors. A well-coated bike can resist rust, fading, and chipping. This allows riders to enjoy their machines without worry, even in harsh conditions.
